A trailer for the new “Ratchet & Clank” for the PlayStation 4 was released recently, and it shows that the game is more than just a reboot.

The video game is actually based on the “Ratchet & Clank” movie, which, in turn, got its roots from the original PlayStation 2 game that has the very same title.

“We knew early on that we did not want to just up-res ‘Ratchet & Clank’ for PS2,” James Stevenson, the community lead at Insomniac Games, wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “We started out thinking of ‘Ratchet & Clank’ on PS4 as a ‘re-imagining’ of the 2002 original – revised to tie in with the deeper version of Ratchet’s origin story (as seen in the film).”

“We envisioned a curated ‘Ratchet & Clank’ experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 games, while infusing some of the best elements from the ‘Ratchet & Clank Future’ games,” Stevenson added.

The official game will be launched sometime in 2016, and fans are hopeful that it will be as gorgeous as the games that the developer released over the past few years, according to Kotaku. Since the “Ratchet & Clank” franchise was launched, fans have loved its animated movie quality, as well as its realistic visuals.

Gamers also liked the game's new weapons, including a big shooter called Pixelizer. By getting some well-placed shots in, even the biggest enemy will burst into a cluster of colorful 8-bit pixels – one that can be easily spread with one swipe of the wrench, noted Forbes.

Another gun, the Groovitron – just like its name entails – makes the villains dance. To make this weapon even more interesting, each of the villains have their own individual dance choreography. In addition, The Bouncer, another "effective" weapon as Stevenson described, will be available to those who pre-order the game.

The new version of “Ratchet & Clank” for the PlayStation 4 is unlike anything gamers have ever seen from the franchise before, as it displayed a genius level of creativity expected from Insomniac Games.

Indeed, “Ratchet & Clank PS4” will be an interesting retelling of the original game that was first launched for the PS2. This includes the very first time that the franchise’s heroes meet each other. It will also feature an epic battle between the heroes and Chairman Drek in order to save the Solana galaxy, Kotaku revealed.

Fans are hopeful that more details regarding the game will be revealed it the E3 event that will happen on June 16-18, 2015, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
