There's a big reason why some boxing fans are seriously wishing for Mexican favorite Canelo Alvarez to win over World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in their match tentatively set on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas.

The expected date and venue of the Canelo vs. Cotto showdown were announced on BoxingScene.

Aside from having a great fan base, Canelo, who is a decade younger than the Puerto Rican fighter, is favored to win the Canelo-Cotto clash, as stated by Max Kellerman of HBO.

"Canelo, I believe, will be favored to win. I believe he'll be correctly favored. He's the younger, fresher fighter," Kellerman said, as quoted by Boxing News 24.

Citing Roc Nation Sports COO David Iskowitch, the sports site reported in another article that Cotto is not planning to vacate his WBC 160lb title after his showdown with Alvarez, which means a fight with Gennady Golovkin, the ferocious Kazakh who holds a 33-0 win-loss record, 30 of these wins via impressive knockouts, may not happen soon.

"We're going to [do] what we can to make sure that he gets to keep that title and if a Canelo fight is made, which is everybody's goal, we would like that fight to be for the title," Itskowitch told Fightnews.com.

Cotto's reluctance to face the undefeated "GGG" was evident when Max Kellerman asked him about it after he defeated Daniel Geale in Brooklyn, noted Boxing News 24 in June.

But how could it be possiblle for Cotto to avoid Golovkin, especially that the Kazakh has the immediate right to challenge the current champion?

It is then speculated that there's a possibility of having a Canelo-Cotto rematch if WBC would agree on that and assuming Cotto wins, before the Cotto-Golovkin ultimate showdown could ever take place.

Although a Canelo-Cotto rematch is another exciting event for fans to see, several boxing enthusiasts are really looking forward to seeing Triple G on the ring again.

Thus, delaying a possible Cotto-Golovkin clash will be a major disappointment to several boxing fans, especially Golovkin's.

Despite some people thinking that Canelo will probably avoid Golovkin himself if he wins over Cotto, this notion was squashed by Golden Boy Promotions and Team Canelo adviser Don Chargin when he was interviewed on FightSaga Radio.

"If you said you're going to make the fight [Canelo vs Golovkin] in three weeks, he'd [Canelo] be happy."

Chargin stated that Canelo wants a showdown with great fighters, as he knows he will learn from them.

"We didn't want him to fight Floyd (in September 2013). We thought he was a year away. And he's the one who wanted [to face] Lara and Austin Trout," Chargin admitted.

"He fought them. His claim is that he learns when he fights smart guys like that with tough styles," the adviser shared.

Therefore, fans may want Canelo to win over Cotto even more as this could pave the way for a possible, albeit, more exciting Canelo vs Golovkin bout.

In May, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman stressed that the winner of the Canelo and Cotto fight will face GGG, noted Boxing Scene. So, the only way for Cotto to avoid Golovkin is to vacate his title after winning in November, which would be a great loss, even without a fight.
