The Los Angeles County District Attorney announced on Thursday that felony charges will not be filed against rapper Sean "P. Diddy" Combs for his altercation last month with UCLA Strength and Conditioning Coach Sal Alosi, reports Variety.

The case is being referred to the Los Angeles City Attorney's ffice for a decision whether or not Combs will face misdemeanor charges for the incident involving a kettlebell weight.

Combs, 45, was arrested by UCLA campus police on June 22, for an alleged assault with a deadly weapon following an altercation with Alosi.

The incident reportedly began when Alosi yelled at Combs' son and Bruins junior defensive back, Justin Combs, during football practice. The coach kicked Justin off the field and told him not to return to practice until the end of summer, reports The New York Post.

According to campus police, Diddy, who was watching his son at football practice, walked into Alosi's office where he allegedly cursed out the conditioning coach. The two men got into a physical altercation at which time Diddy allegedly swung a kettlebell weight at an intern, reported Us Weekly.

Alosi's shirt was ripped and he had scratches on his face, according to sources, but no one was seriously injured during the fracas.

According to The New York Post, Diddy's representative gave a different account of what happened. It started, the representative said, when Diddy and Justin went to Alosi's office at the campus training facility "just to talk." Six people allegedly jumped Diddy, according to his representative, when he confronted the coach, resulting in the rapper grabbing a kettlebell that he held to his chest "in a defensive position." He did not swing the kettlebell, the representative said.

The "Finna Get Loose" rapper has also said publicly that he was defending himself and his son.

The New York Post reports that Justin, 21, is set to be a Bruins redshirt junior defensive back this fall, but he was not putting much effort in offseason practice and he has missed many workouts. He has only played in a few games in three years. Alosi reportedly lost patience with Justin.

According to Bruins Nation, it remains to be seen whether Justin will remain on the UCLA football team this season.
