The “Spider-Man” reboot had already found its titular star and it looks like Sony and Marvel have now also added another celebrity to portray a main character in the friendly neighborhood web slinger’s story arc. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marisa Tomei is already in final negotiations with the film makers for the Aunt May Parker role.

Once finalized, Tomei will be joining the ranks of Sally Field and Rosemary Harris – actresses who have all played the role of Aunt May in the previous “Spider-Man” blockbusters. Considering that Sony’s new take in the “Spider-Man” franchise will focus on a much younger Peter Parker, it is only right that they cast a much younger actress for Aunty May’s part as well.

Based on the comic book source material, Aunt May -- whose real name is May Reilly Parker-Jameson -- is the woman who adopted the orphaned Peter. Despite not being his biological mother, Aunt May has always raised him with love and had also been his moral compass.

Unfortunately, at the moment, there has been no word on where things actually stand with regards to the negotiations, but Variety has confirmed that the Aunt May offer was given to Tomei late last week. The casting for “Spider-Man” may be a bit new to the roster of projects that Tomei has had experience with since debuting in the entertainment industry.

She is featured in “The Wrestler,” “The Ides of March,” “Crazy Stupid Love,” and “My Cousin Vinny, which, in turn, landed her a nomination for an Oscar award. She also stars alongside Amy Schumer in “Trainwreck” and is presently busy shooting “The Big Short” with Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale. Apart from movie deals, Tomei will also be part of the upcoming 2nd season of “Empire” on FOX.

The young actor who was chosen for the Spider-Man role, who will be part of the MCU, or Marvel Cinematic Universe, is Tom Holland from “The Impossible.” Before he was selected, though, he -- along with other young actors -- had to go through certain tests and screenings before Marvel and Sony made the final decision.

Holland had to compete with Judah Lewis from “Demolition,” Charlie Plummer from “Boardwalk Empire,” Matthew Lintz from “Pixels,” Charlie Rowe from “Red Band Society,” and Asa Butterfield from “Ender’s Game.” However, Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group saw something “special” in Holland.

“We saw many terrific young actors,” Rothman said. “But, Tom’s screen tests were special.”

Based on the report from The Hollywood Reporter, both Holland and Tomei will be introduced into the MCU in the upcoming “Captain America 3: Civil War” film, which will be out in 2016.
