The highly anticipated and much-delayed production of the new King Kong feature, "Kong: Skull Island," has now cast its female heroine for the film.

According to Deadline, Brie Larson ("The United States of Tara," "Trainwreck") is in talks with the film's producers to play the role of the female lead in the show.

News of this follows the departure of two of the project's big name stars, Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons, who left due to scheduling conflicts and delays.

Larson had recently played a small role in the Judd Apatow flick "Trainwreck," which starred emerging actress and comedian Amy Schumer.

"Skull Island" has a preliminary release date of March 10 of next year. But since the scheduling conflicts and departures of Keaton and Simmons, that could easily be changed at any moment.

There has not been any news yet as to whether the film is a follow-up to the 2005 hit "King Kong" by Peter Jackson that starred Naomi Watts and Jack Black.

It is not likely, given that Larson has been cast in the leading role for the film's main actress. Watts portrayed the role in 2005, but Larson will in some way play a variation of the character, or maybe even a new heroine character that has been created specifically for this new movie.

The film is expected to not just focus on the classic giant monster that was extracted from the island and brought back to Manhattan. It is more likely that the focus will be on the island itself and what kind of other giant monsters are present there.

The island is supposed to be in a remote region of an ocean that has not been credited. The island is a mythical place that has survived in isolation and given animals the chance to grow into giant versions of their counterparts among civilization.
