Kevin Hart and Ice Cube's "Ride Along" proved to be a smashing success by amassing over $40 million on its opening week alone. So, using math-based logic and Hollywood's formula for film franchises, don't be surprised if you see a "Ride Along" sequel in cinemas in the near future.

And no, that's not a shady prediction. Back in April of last year, a whole nine months before the film was released, Deadline reported that the movie's screenplay writers Matt Manfredi and Phil Jay were already in the initial planning stages of drafting the script for a sequel. Now that's confidence.

But whether it was pure luck or a stroke of genius in nailing the perfect Ice Cube-Kevin Hart formula, "Ride Along" sat comfortably at the box office throne for three weeks, strengthening the talks surrounding a possible sequel.

Of course, one can't help but think about the risk of ruining the essence of the first film with a poorly executed sequel. But don't worry, Cube and Hart have no plans of getting lazy and repeating the same recipe from "Ride Along."

During a question-and-answer session covered by the Wall Street Journal, the rapper-actor said, "When we do a sequel, we're not going to be borrowing jokes from the first one... We're going to do a whole new movie that's going to be fresh and fly."

Fresh and fly. That's what we want to hear.

Hart added to the conversation that even though he considers buddy-cop film franchises such as "Lethal Weapon," "Rush Hour," and "Bad Boys" as great movies, he and his co-star want their film to stand out from the genre. But in referring to a buddy-cop film's timeless effect, he said, "[Cube's] whole goal was to make sure that we were part of that conversation."

But whatever the "Ride Along" team plans to do with the second installment, let's just hope that they don't pull a The Hangover Part 2-type of sequel.
