2K Games has carried out their Twitter promise from a week ago and has now unveiled the first official trailer for "Mafia III."

The third installment of the highly addictive action-adventure mobster game was first shown at Gamescom 2015.

"Mafia III" will star a Vietnam War veteran, Lincoln Clay. He is a half-black, half-white American who has found a home in the deep south, which for a guy like him isn't the safest place to be in. The game is set in the late sixties story, which makes Clay's story all the more interesting.

Clay eventually settles in with the Black mob but things turn awry as they are embroiled in a violent feud with the local Italian mob. Fortunately, he will be assisted by a gang of new and familiar faces.

According to IGN, Clay's people skills will persuade many into his fold. As he builds his criminal empire, he will be joined by Haitians led by Cassandra, an Irish faction led by Burke, and Vito Scaletta's merry band of Italians. The three will serve as his lieutenants although that isn't as sure as it seems.

Clay's standing to each of them, and the narrative of the game for that matter, will be dynamic and will be based on players' preferences. When players show them favor, Cassandra, Burke, and Vito can grant special abilities to Clay. The opposite can be said when players show them neglect.

Furthermore, players may choose an aggressive Rambo-esque style or a more subtle diplomatic strategy in building Clay's empire. Whatever approach players choose will eventually shape or destroy the city.

As for the game's take on 1968 New Orleans, Phil Savage of PC Gamer witnessed an exclusive gameplay demo of Lincoln Clay's adventures. He had this to say:

"In the demo, Clay's mission is to take control of a Mafia-owned drug den. No easy task in its own right, but Clay doesn't yet know where it is. Following a tip that dealers are operating in a local cemetery, he pays a visit hoping to shake loose some information. On his way, I see New Orleans wrought in stunning detail. The excellent lighting creates a dark, smoky atmosphere punctuated by vibrant bursts of light from signs and store fronts. It looks humid, somehow, and feels totally different from the overly familiar aesthetic of New York or LA."

2K Hanger 13's creative director Haden Blackman said "Mafia III" will continue the Mafia franchise's tradition of presenting compelling crime stories as "Mafia III" is set during a turbulent place and time in America in the eyes of an unexpected anti-hero.

The game will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2016.
