If you are hoping for a sequel to Minecraft, then you will be disappointed to know it won't be happening soon.

In an interview with Gamespot, Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson said he thinks the current Minecraft can last until the year 2020.

"First of all, there's been no discussions about Minecraft 2 at the moment. I can't promise forever there'll never be a Minecraft 2, but for the foreseeable future there won't be," Martensson said.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer echoed the same sentiment as Martennsson. Last year, Microsoft bought out Swedish gaming developer Mojang for $2.5 billion.

"I don't know if Minecraft 2, if that's the thing that makes the most sense. The community around Minecraft is as strong as any community out there," Spencer said.

"We need to meet the needs and the desires of what the community has before we get permission to go off and do something else," he continued.

"It doesn't mean that everything we're going to do is going to map to 100 percent of their acceptance, because I don't know if there is any topic where 100 percent of people agree. But we look at Job 1 is to go out and meet the needs of the Minecraft community first, and then we can think about ways that we can actually help grow it. That's our sole focus."

So instead of a sequel, developers will continue to update the current game with new content and will include the occasional bug fixes. Recently, Minecraft announced it has given out a free map of Northern Ireland to schools. The game can be used as an educational tool for children across the country.

The popular game will be made into a movie in 2017. The Minecraft movie has already found its director in Rob McElhenney of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia."

Also in the works is a new Minecraft video game series called Minecraft: Story Mode. Telltale Games, the developer behind "The Walking Dead" and "Game Of Thrones" video game series, will be producing the spinoff in the coming year.
