It was previously confirmed that From Software's gore-laden yet surprisingly addictive action-adventure game "Bloodborne" will have its first expansion pack later this year.

Sony, the game's publisher, announced "Bloodborne: The Old Hunters" last week at the Tokyo Game Show video game expo. The announcement was followed by a cinematic trailer of the game's new contents, The Verge reported.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) producer Masaaki Yamagiwa then wrote about the PlayStation 4-exclusive DLC on the official PlayStation blog:

"Set in a nightmare world where hunters from the past are trapped forever, explore brand new stages full of dangers, rewards, and deadly beasts to overcome. You'll find multiple new outfits and weapons to add to your arsenal as well as additional magic to wield and add more variety to your combat strategy."

Aside from the description above, not much else was known about the DLC. Luckily, a video game news outfit caught up with Yamagiwa over the weekend to elaborate further on "Bloodborne: The Old Hunters."

Game Spot asked whether or not the contents of the cinematic trailer would make their way to the final DLC. Yamagiwa then responded, "This is a small portion of one of the three new stages that's going to be in the DLC. But we have tweaked a few things in the demo so it's not exactly the same experience you'll have in the main game. The real version is going to be even harder."

The SCEJ producer clarified that gamers need not complete the main "Bloodborne" storyline to access the upcoming DLC. "The Old Hunters" becomes available after players progress to only a certain point in the game's original campaign.

Fans should also expect more weapons, items and tactical options in "The Old Hunters." Yamagiwa said that the DLC would carry "an overall expansion" to the main game.

Yamagiwa did not go into detail on the new items, although he did mention that majority of the expansion pack's new weapons were developed after the release of the main game.

Meanwhile, some of the new weapons were supposed to be featured in "Bloodborne." However, From Software did not manage to polish the items in time to the level Sony wanted, Yamagiwa said.

The said weapons have now been perfected and will just be a small minority in the pool of new weapons that gamers can use once the upcoming DLC arrives.

"Bloodborne: The Old Hunters" can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store for $20 starting Nov. 24.

The PlayStation 4-exclusive DLC will then be packaged with the original title starting Dec. 3, although the price for the "Bloodborne" bundle is yet to be announced.
