Sony's game console has hit the 6 million mark in sales after the PS4's recent launch in Japan. The PS4-maker made the announcement through the PlayStation blog Tuesday.

According to Game Spot, the PS4's recent Japan release sold 370,000 units and surpassed Sony's 5 million end of March target by 1 million. On the other hand, GSM Arena points out that the Xbox One has sold 4.8 million units.

The previous month, the company has announced cumulative sales of over 5.3 million around the world. CNet notes that Sony's current gen console is sold in 57 countries across the globe but is pretty much harder to come by than Microsoft's Xbox One.

Gamers who have been wanting to get their hands on the PS4 have since been facing OOS signs online and in stores. And Sony has also confirmed the general sold out early last month.

"PS4s are generally sold out at all retailers, although regular supply is refreshing the channel," the International Business Times quotes Sony.

But more than sales, the PS4-maker also mentions that their current gen game console has paved way to a "new era of social gameplay."

"There have now been more than 3.6 million live broadcasts, and more than 56 million spectate sessions on PS4 through Twitch and Ustream," Marketing VP John Koller posted on the PlayStation blog.

"In fact, since January 1st, PS4 gamers account for 20% of daily broadcasters on Twitch. PS4 owners are also embracing the Share button on the DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller, with more than 100 million shares captured as fans show friends their latest achievements on Facebook and Twitter," he adds.

The PlayStation blog post also details how viewers can take part in livestreamed gameplay by influencing positive and negative effects during the streaming, citing Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition as an example with its Broadcast+ mode.

"In this mode, you can stream your game to the masses interactively, and your viewers can influence the difficulty of your game. Periodically all your viewers, whether they be on PS4 or a web browser, have the option to vote between a positive and negative effect that occurs in your game," XDEV Studio Europe's Associate Producer, Rogan Ogden explains in a post.
