Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran are going head to head for Song of the Year at the 2015 BMI London Awards.

The British singers lead the pack in the best song category. Smith is nominated for "Stay With Me" and for his collaboration "Latch" with Disclosure, while Sheeran's "Sing" and "Don't" are both nominated as well, according to Digital Spy.

Additional songs up for the award include Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX's collaboration "Fancy," Clean Bandit's "Rather Be," Rixton's "Me and My Broken Heart," Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)," Nico & Vinz' "Am I Wrong" and Coldplay's "Sky Full of Stars."

The award will be given to one of the songs, all written by European artists and songwriters, from the past year that were the most-played on the radio and TV in the U.S.

Ed Sheeran was nominated last year for his duet with Taylor Swift "Everything Has Changed," but lost out to the Daft Punk hit "Get Lucky." Other winners from past years include Adele for her popular track "Rolling in the Deep" in 2012 and Swedish duo Jörgen Elofsson and Ali Tamposi for Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" in 2013.

The BMI Awards' gala ceremony, which will honor songwriter Graham Gouldman as a BMI Icon, takes place on Monday, Oct. 19. Gouldman is most well-known for penning hit songs for artists such as The Yardbirds and The Hollies.

Smith released his debut album "In the Lonely Hour" on May 26, 2014. The album garnered several singles, including "Lay Me Down," "Money on My Mind," "Stay with Me," "I'm Not the Only One" and "Like I Can." The album peaked at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

Sheeran last released "x" on June 20, 2014. This album spawned the singles "Sing," "Don't," "Thinking Out Loud," "Bloodstream" and "Photograph." Billboard ranked this album as the fifth best out of the top 10 albums in 2014.
