Last year's champion of the Indian Wells Masters or BNP Paribas Open, Rafael Nadal, and Maria Sharapova were defeated in this year's tournament, NST reported.

In a stunning upset, the No 1 player lost to Ukranian player Alexander Dolgopolov with the score of 6-3 3-6 7-6 7-5. Dolgopolov commented on his victory and said, "I feel great, I mean, as after every win, of course."

He added, "This one was bigger, and I beat the defending champion, number one in the world. I guess I just need to enjoy this evening and forget about it tomorrow and try to compete in the rest of the tournament. I'm still in."

As for the beaten Nadal, Skysports reported he will now turn his attention to the upcoming Sony Masters happening on March 17 to 30. He said, "I wanted to play very well here. I had good success in this tournament in the past, a tournament I always feel good about. I'm going to keep working hard to try to be ready and play better in Miami."

On the other hand, WTA'S No. 79 player Camila Giorgi bested No. 5 player Maria Sharapova in a 6-3 4-6 7-5 victory. According to WebPro News, her win marked her third victory against a top-ten ranked opponent which included No. 9 Caroline Wozniacki and No. 7 Sara Errani.

Regarding her loss, Sharapova commented, "I did not play a good match at all and I started very poorly. I've never played against her, but she's someone that doesn't give you much rhythm. She's quite aggressive, but some shots she hits incredible for a long period of time."

She added, "Sometimes they go off a bit. But I'm speaking about my level, it was nowhere near it should have been."

Due to her defeat in the BNP Paribas Open, Sharapova will fall to the No. 7 spot.
