Former WWE World Champion Rey Mysterio was a guest recently on the "Gorilla Position Podcast," where he talked about his in-ring career, wrestling in Mexico at a young age and the possibility of returning to the WWE. He said that there is still a chance that he will return if they both agree on terms of a new deal.

"Never say never. I didn't leave on bad terms. There was no dispute or bad intention on me leaving. So, if there is an opportunity down the road and both parties agree to it, why not," Mysterio said as quoted by Inquisitr.

The report noted that Mysterio and WWE parted ways in good terms, considering all the things that went down during his final year with the WWE. He last appeared on WWE TV in April 2014 when he lost to Bad News Barrett in an episode of Monday Night Raw.

He took some time off to heal an injured wrist and was released last February, per PWInsider. There were reports that WWE extended his contract without his approval because of a clause in his contract about him being out most of 2013 and 2014 due to injury.

Inquisitr added that the return of Alberto Del Rio sparked the rumors of a Mysterio return because of the way of Del Rio's departure with the WWE is much more controversial. The current U.S. champion was fired last August 2014 due to a backstage incident involving a WWE.com staff saying racist remarks at him, with Del Rio slapping him in return.

Mysterio also said that he is enjoying his time outside the WWE. The 40-year-old high flyer is currently working in Mexico's AAA promotion as their top star and also takes independent bookings for promotions all over the world, per Cage Side Seats.

It is also noted that Mysterio has enjoyed facing the likes of Amazing Red, Ricochet and PJ Black in the independent circuit. Black is former WWE Superstar Justin Gabriel.

"At this stage of my career and my personal life, I'm enjoying my time off. It's what I want to do. I wanted to spend time with my kids and my wife, and I wanted my body to heal up. So, I'm going through that right now," the masked luchador said via Wrestle Zone.

Mysterio has lauded the lighter schedule of AAA because it can help heal his banged-up body. His left knee has suffered the most damage, saying on WWE.com that he has torn his left ACL multiple times.
