Like father, like son.

At least that seems to be the reality of the Cuaron family.

Jonas Cuaron, the son of Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron, has just premiered his new film "Desierto," and early word is overwhelmingly positive.

The new film, which is Jonas' second directorial effort, bowed at Morelia with the entire Cuaron family on hand. The movie was reportedly made for $3 million and is expected to launch in Mexico in 2016 and mark the official launch of Cinepolish, the world's fourth largest exhibition circuit.

Starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the film takes on the theme of immigration and border crossing, centering on two characters in a thriller setup. Cuaron reportedly wrote the script six years ago, and it proved to be a launching point for his collaboration with his father on the Oscar-winning "Gravity." Both movies feature characters fighting the elements on their own.

Filming took around 50 days in extremely hot temperatures.

"Desierto" was produced by Alfonso and Carlo Cuaron alongside Alex Garcia and Charles Gillibert. The film is reportedly hitting American theaters at the start of 2016.

Jonas Cuaron also previously directed the "Year of the Nail," a film shot through photographs that tells the love story between a Mexican teenager and an older American woman during a summer in Mexico.

Aside from writing "Gravity" and his own films, Jonas Cuaron also worked with his father on the upcoming film "A Boy And His Shoe" and "The Lost City," which is centered on the mythical underwater "lost city" of Atlantis. Cuaron is the only writer credited on that film, and it is listed as in development by IMDB.

"Gravity" won Alfonso Cuaron a Best Director Oscar, making him the first Latin American helmer to achieve the feat.
