Next-gen games are rolling out faster than ever now that Microsoft and Sony are settled into the new Xbox One and PlayStation 4 era.

As we kick off the spring and look ahead to the warm summer ahead of us, let us take a look at some of the top and most anticipated video games that could be on the shelves before the sweltering dog days of summer are upon us.

1. MLB 14: The Show on PS4 -- Thankfully gamers do not need to deal with such a wide gap between the Xbox 360 / PS3 releases and the Xbox One / PS4 releases now that developers have had ample time to prepare for the next-gen consoles, but there is still a waiting period nonetheless. Although this game would probably be released ahead of the season, it will finally be ready for release on May 6, which is just over a month after the season gets underway.

2. Mario Kart 8 on Wii U -- Most of us remember the days when Mario Kart was fairly basic, yet incredibly entertaining. For some, that will be the only Mario Kart they could ever imagine, but to others, the newest Mario Kart is the next best thing. The official release date for this game, according to IGN, is slated for May 30.

3. Halo on Xbox One -- From the day Halo debuted on the original Xbox, video gamers fell in love with it. Now the game is coming back on Xbox One, and the release date is not yet determined but is said to be heading to the shelves by some point this year.

These are just a few video games to look forward to this year. If we didn't include one of your favorite games, feel free to chime into the comments section and let us know which games you are looking forward to.
