Who would have thought that a graham cracker commercial would have been so controversial? Such is the case with the Honey Maid Graham's recent commercials, which have created a firestorm of backlash from the more conservative religious groups because its commercials promote a newfound level of tolerance!

In their latest commercial, according to Slate, the Nabisco-owned company shows an interracial couple, a single parent household, a military family, and a "rock'n'roll" family. But what is drawing the most ire from the conservative groups is the "two dads" family, which is shown the longest in the commercial.

The commercial's caption also reads "No matter how things change, what makes us wholesome never will. Honey Maid. Everyday wholesome snacks for every wholesome family. This is wholesome."

Naturally, whenever you call a non-white, non-traditional family "wholesome," you're going to draw fire from the ignorants on the Religious Right, and that's exactly the kind of messages that Honey Maid Graham has been receiving... most especially from evangelical groups like One Million Moms, which is a more hateful arm of the Religious Right.

"Nabisco should be ashamed of themselves for their latest Honey Maid and Teddy Graham cracker commercial where they attempt to normalize sin," said One Millions Moms on its website (which I'm not going to link to here, because I refuse to promote ignorance and intolerance). "Right away it shows two men with a baby, followed by other families, and ends with different families pictured including the one with two dads. This commercial not only promotes homosexuality, but then calls the scene in the advertisement wholesome. The ad states, 'Everyday wholesome snacks for every wholesome family. This is wholesome.'"

But Honey Maid Graham, according to the New Yorker, responded to this garbage in a classy way... and got even MORE love than ever before. Check out the video of how they responded below.
