2016 Presidential hopeful Donald Trump announced on Dec. 29, 2015 that he will spend $2 million each week for TV ads in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

The New York Times reports that the real estate magnate turned politician has not yet reserved the television time slots.

Speaking to reporters on his private plane, Trump said the ads will focus on American security, ISIS and the U.S.-Mexico border.

“So I’m going to be doing big ads in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and they’re going to be very substantial and I think they're very well done. I’ve seen the first two or three of them. We're very proud of them. We’re going be talking about a lot of things, including the border, including trade, including ISIS and security for the country. We’re going to be talking about a lot of things in these commercials,” Trump said.

After announcing the proposed TV ads, Trump added that he was very proud that he had thus far spent less than anyone else running for president and garnered the best results.

“That’s the kind of attitude and thought process that the country needs: spend the least and be the best,” he added.

Despite the fact that Trump insisted he did not need to spend the money on ads, Trump said he would do so because he does not want to take any chances.

Political reporter and commentator Scott Detrow views Trump’s decision to spend several million dollars on ads as a necessary one.

Speaking on NPR, Detrow explained that Trump is now at a point where he needs to identify who his key supporters are and make sure they get to the polls.

“So that means more traditional on-the-ground organizing and also more advertising,” Detrow said.
