The Sony Xperia Z5 line of smartphones is finally coming to the U.S. The Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact will be sold in the U.S. starting Feb. 7.

The Sony Xperia Z5 was first announced at the consumer electronics and appliance show IFA in Berlin about six months ago, Tech Radar reports. The phone was made available to most countries, including the U.K. in October, but the U.S. was not included.

Phone Specs

The Sony Xperia Z5 is fairly advanced for a 2015 phone. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a 5.2-inch 1080p screen, 3GB of RAM, a 23 megapixel (MP) camera with 4K resolution for video recording, a waterproof rating of IP68 and a microSD slot.

The Xperia Z5 Compact is a smaller version of the phone, but it keeps most of the features. The Compact does have just a 4.6-inch screen with 720p resolution and 2GB of RAM.

The Xperia Z5 also made many improvements on the Xperia Z4. The phone has a better design and the battery performs better as well. Given the upgrades, it is surprising that the Xperia Z5 Compact is able to use the same Snapdragon 810 processor that is found in the Xperia Z5.

Phone Availability and Cost

Both the Xperia Z5 and the Xperia Z5 Compact will come unlocked at U.S. stores for GSM networks like AT&T or T-Mobile. The Xperia Z5 Compact will cost $499 and the Xperia Z5 will cost $599.

The phone will also appear in PlayStation 4 game Uncharted 4. In the multiplayer mode for the game, players are able to perform several taunts, including snapping a selfie with the Xperia Z5 smartphone.

No Premium?

The very first 4K smartphone display came on the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. Unfortunately, this phone will not be coming to the U.S. yet. Hopefully, the premium version is announced soon for the U.S. market.
