Before the premiere of the Univision telenovela "Un Camino Hacia el Destino” on Feb. 23, Latin Post talked to actress Paulina Goto about what she loves about playing the role of Luisa Fernanda, how she balances acting and music, and where she hopes to be in 10 years.

In 2010, Goto was cast into the limelight when she got the lead role in the popular telenovela "Niña de mi Corazón," despite having no prior acting experience. She went on to win several awards for the role.

Since then she studied at the Centro de Educación Artística, Televisa's prestigious drama school in Mexico City. Goto has continued to grow, proving she is a star in the making with lead roles in Nickelodeon's Latin American television series "Miss XV," "Vaselina," the Mexican stage production of "Grease," and now "Un Camino Hacia el Destino."

While she may be just starting out and looking for more opportunities to take her career to new levels, Goto doesn't want to become attached to just any role. The actress wants the roles she plays to be meaningful.

"I liked this role because it was very authentic, very forward and she wasn't just one of those typical female roles where she's just going to fall in love," Goto said about getting to play Luisa Fernanda. "The telenovela has more objectives and one of them is her dream of becoming a musician that plays the violin, which is her biggest passion in life and I love that."

Unlike most telenovelas, Goto told People en Español, "Un Camino Hacia el Destino" is for families and should appeal to anyone who loves melodrama, comedy, and good characters. With most of her experience being on family friendly television, playing Luisa Fernanda is a very familiar and personal experience for Goto.

Along with Luisa Fernanda's determination and family-oriented personality, Goto relates to her character's love of making music.

After "Niña de mi Corazón," the actress hit another milestone when she got a recording contract and released her self-titled debut album. She later became the lead singer of the group Eme 15, which was created by Pedro Damián, the man behind RBD.

While the group didn't go as far as RBD, Goto didn't let that stop her from continuing her passion for singing. In fact, the actress revealed that after "Un Camino Hacia el Destino" ends, she will release her second album.

"Everything in life seems to happen at the same time," she joked about her work in music while on a telenovela. "Right now, I'm acting in ["Un Camino Hacia el Destino"] but I'm happy because I was able to sing the theme song and therefore I'm not too distant from music."

Goto revealed she had to take violin lessons for the role of Luisa. She described her experience with the instrument as beautiful and complex, and she credited her lessons with giving her exposure to other aspects of music that have helped her grow as an artist.

Even though she's in the early stages of her career, Goto's popularity is sure to grow. The star had a few words for other aspiring actors or singers hoping to get to where she is.

"Look for your dreams. Prepare yourself and always believe in yourself because there are always going to be people who will come and tell you that you can't do it," she said. "You place the limits so if you have a dream pursue it. Everything in life is possible."

Goto, who named American actresses Meryl Streep and Natalie Portman and British star Keira Knightley as strong influences, may not be completely sure of where she will be in a few years, but she has a clear idea of where she wants to be.

"I would love to do films, which I've never done, and continue telling stories on television," she said. "To keep singing, to continue preparing myself and to hopefully be a better actress."
