Most rumors and sources have pointed to the New York Knicks signing Steve Kerr as their head coach for next season. Knicks President Phil Jackson has a long history with Kerr as his head coach with the Chicago Bulls in the '90s. The two are good friends, but nothing has official on paper yet.

Kerr had an outstanding playing career, shooting over 45% from the three point line. He would help win five NBA Championships with the Bulls and Spurs collectively. Kerr wasn't the greatest player ever, but he was regarded as one of the smartest and it showed on the court with Jackson's triangle offense. But the Bulls need a backup plan. What if Kerr decides to go elsewhere? Many NBA insiders feel that the Golden State Warriors coach, Mark Jackson will be fired after three seasons with the team. Kerr may want to coach a sure playoff team, instead of rebuilding in New York.

If the Knicks and Jackson don't get Kerr, they have other options.

Kevin Ollie. Ollie is the current head coach for the Connecticut Huskies, and he just recently led the University to the National Championship. Ollie has a great job as head coach for one of the best basketball universities in the country, with the best talent coming his way, however he can make more money in the NBA. Ollie made just $1.25 million last season and according to ESPN, Uconn is now offering about $2.5 million annually. Ollie would have a much tougher job coaching the Knicks, but it might be worth a try.

Mike D'Antoni. D'Antoni recently resigned from the Los Angeles Lakers after two very disappointing seasons. D'Antoni's stock has dropped a lot, but he may just fit what Carmelo Anthony wants to do. D'Antoni stresses a lot of offense and scoring, with little defense. Unlikely the Knicks will make a big offer, but D'Antoni will cost less than other coaches.

John Calipari. Calipari has done an excellent job in college basketball, making it to three National Championship games and winning one. He coached the New Jersey Nets shortly in the late '90s, but didn't manage a lot of success. Maybe Calipari can prove the doubters wrong and coach pro basketball again. The Knicks could use him.

Kurt Rambis. Rambis has a lot of experience in player personnel and management. He is currently the Lakers Assistant Coach and played over a decade in the NBA. If the Lakers don't let Rambis become head coach, he may want to reach out to the Knicks for that opportunity. Rambis has little head coaching experience, but he's a true leader.
