The Euro 2016 gets underway in less that one month. On June 10, France will kick off the tournament at home against Romania in Group A, starting its quest to claim its first major trophy since 2000.

Group A is an interesting group featuring one clearcut favorite, two sides with decent chances of moving on and one team that could surprise if everything falls right.

Les Favorites

France enters the tournament as one of the favorites to win it all. Not only does the team have tremendous talent throughout the lineup, but it has already showcased its worth in high profile games against Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands among many others. The team has won seven of its last eight after a poor stretch during the early part of 2015.

France is rather deep throughout the lineup with a nice mix of youth and experience at the back. Didier Deschamps has rotated his squad throughout recent friendlies giving his core defenders opportunities to show their worth. One constant has been Raphael Varane, who has endured a poor season for Real Madrid. However, he has the speed and poise to be a major contributor for his nation.

Midfield is yet another area of strength from France with Paul Pogba undeniably the focal point. As he goes, so will France. He is a creator with supreme intelligence on and off the ball and will be the key unlocking the talents France's attackers.

And what a lineup it is. Antoine Griezmann has been a revelation in Madrid and will be the offensive leader. But the team also has the likes of up and comers Anthony Martial and Kingsley Coman. Olivier Giroud could be used as a the point man with Griezmann serving more as a winger in a 4-3-3. Coman could fill in on the other wing. If Deschamps opts for a 4-4-2, then it could be Griezmann and Giroud up top. The former option has seemed more likely based on recent formations.

Karim Benzema, who would make this team unstoppable, is not on the squad due to some issues he was involved in with team members.

The Contenders: Romania & Switzerland

Romania has looked decent in recent matches, drawing 0-0 against Spain to extend its undefeated run to 17 games. Romania has not lost since a 2-1 encounter with Algeria back on June 4, 2014. Since then the team has a record of nine wins and eight draws conceding just five goals in that run. That span has included 13 clean sheets and a total of five 0-0 draws. The goals have not been plentiful, so there is no presumption that this team has been dominant, but the Romanians, who were ever so close to making it to the World Cup in 2014, are rounding into a strong form heading into the big tournament in June. There is no major superstar on the squad, but they have a cohesive group that can make big things happen.

Switzerland was once seen as a solid European side, but the team has stumbled in recent months. After a solid qualification round, the team has stumbled to a record of three losses and one win in its most recent four. Prior to that run the team had won eight of 11.

The team will be in an interesting place in goal without long-time number one Diego Benaglio, who retired after the 2014 World Cup. Vladimir Petkovic has rotated his goaltenders throughout the past qualifiers with Yann Sommer getting the most starts and looking like the presumptive starter for this tournament. Elsewhere in the lineup, Switzerland has talent with Stephan Lichsteiner and Ricardo Rodriguez leading the defense. In the midfield, Granit Xhaka will be the main man while Xherdan Shaqiri will lead the offense.

The Heavy Underdog - Albania

Albania is not in the greatest of shape despite qualifying for the tournament, unable to put together more than two wins together at any given point over the last five years. In its last 10, the team has a record of 4-2-4 (four wins, two draws and four defeats), though it did manage to defeat France and has also topped Portugal over the last two years.

Top player in the group

This comes down to Pogba and Griezmann, both capable of changing any game they are involved in. For now we will give it Griezmann and his 30-plus goals this year for Atletico Madrid, blazing speed and dynamic attacking prowess.

Records

France has a record of seven wins, five draws and three losses against Romania. Against Switzerland, the team has 16 victories, 12 defeats and nine ties. France has beaten Albania four times, drawn once and lost once.

Switzerland has a record of five wins and one draw against Albania; the team has never lost against Albania. Against Romania, the Swiss have a losing record, dropping five games, while winning four and tying three.

Romania's record against Albania stands at 11 wins, three draws and two defeats. Albania does not hold a winning record against any of these teams.

Overall, France has a record of 27-15-16 against the teams in its group.

Switzerland has a record of 21-13 -21. Romania's overall record is 19-11-13 while the Albanians have an overall outlook of 5-5-20.

Prediction

France cleans slate winning all three games and topping the group. The Swiss finish second and Romania third with Albania losing every single game.
