The Germany national team will look to continue its ascent into soccer legends when it kicks off its Euro 2016 tournament on Sunday against the Ukraine.

Can Germany do it again?

The reigning World Cup champions have a lineup of geniuses that should be difficult to overcome for any team. Based on their recent game against Hungary, Die Mannschaft looks to lineup with Mario Gotze leading the line, Mesut Ozil sitting in behind in the hole while being flanked by Julian Draxler and Thomas Muller. Behind them will be Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira in what might be the most fearsome offensive in the entire tournament. Even then, the team still has the likes of Andre Schurrle and Bastian Schweinsteiger coming off the bench.

The Germans have been in erratic form since winning the trophy in Brazil two summers ago. Their record since has been a mediocre 10 wins, seven losses and two draws, hardly the mark of a champion.

It will be interesting to see which version of the German team shows up for this tournament as any sign of weakness could quickly turn against the world's current champions.

Ukraine is looking to make a stand after hosting the Euro four years ago. Back then the team managed just one victory in three matches but was unable to get out of the group stage, finishing third. Ukraine has never passed the first round of the Euro Cup in its entire history.

Player to Watch

Mesut Ozil will be the man creating in the Germany midfield. He had a solid World Cup two summers ago when he was still searching for consistency at the club level. He has found his best form since and could be the player to watch in this tournament.

History favors the Germans

Germany has a record of two wins and three draws in this matchup. The most recent match, a friendly in 2011, ended up in a 3-3 draw.

Ukraine has never defeated Germany.

Prediction

Germany jumps out to a strong start in the tournament, winning 3-1 against the Ukrainians.
