Posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD is a common mental disorder that can only develop after a person has experienced any traumatic event or any related mental or physical distress. Symptoms occurred for more than a month after the incident and that includes disturbing thoughts, feelings or dreams that are related to the incident.

A new British study finds that women who suffer from a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy should be routinely screened for PTSD and receive a mental health support. Meanwhile, according to Jessa Farren, of The Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London, said that they were surprised at the high number of women who experienced the symptoms of PTSD after pregnancy loss but there is no routine follow-up appointment because in some place they don't have anything for the trauma and depression after pregnancy loss, according to Medicine Net.

What are emotions women might feel having PTSD?

Farren stated that many women may experience mixed emotions such as disbelief, guilty feeling, sadness in some point and others may feel physical distress and these includes fatigue, the trouble of sleeping, loss of appetite and frequent crying. These symptoms usually triggered the lifestyle of a woman, from her work to her relationship with other people, Health Day reported.

Each in every step takes longer as it seems but women need to respect their limitations as they work through and begin to heal. Acceptance is one of the processes that is needed to learn, there might be flashbacks but reaching out to family and friends may give relief. Men may seem less affected when the baby was lost early stage of the pregnancy because the bonding is not yet developed but that doesn't mean that they're not affected and seek counseling can also help for the couple.
