Immigrants sit inside a bus terminal while they are treated by volunteer workers on February 14, 2021 in Brownsville, Texas. he Biden administration will resume the asylum seeking process for migrants as soon as on Friday Feb. 19. About 300 people a day will be processed into the U.S. according to the senior White House officials.

For any parent, there is nothing more heartbreaking than being separated from your family. But the previous administration's immigration policy has led families to be separated from each other in an attempt to control illegal immigration. With these factors, the pressure starts high for the Biden administration to address this issue in the United States.

According to Tampa Bay Times, the previous administration has received condemnation because their immigration policy separates families on borders.

This is what happened precisely to Salvador Cortés, a father of three children who were able to witness his wife's deportation to Mexico after their domestic argument attracted police attention. Cortés and his family are among the thousands who are hoping to reunite as immigration policies become lax.

Tampa Bay Times notes that Cortés illegally came to the United States 16 years ago, and since then struggling to keep their family intact in Lake Placid while working as a lawn service worker. They also note that he has never applied for a legal residency because he knows that he will not qualify.

Tampa Bay Times shares that officers arrested Cortés' wife on an aggravated battery charge, inferring that the wife threatened him with a knife during an argument about whether he would work outside the home.

The children interviewed separately agreed that she was the aggressor. With the new administration taking charge of the office, the family wishes to have a reunion get a chance to start anew.

Biden Under Pressure

According to ABC News, President Joe Biden has already taken significant steps in his first weeks in office through reversing president Trump's insistent immigration regulations that discourage people from coming to the country.

Miami Herald shares that Biden's Immigration Bill has a provision which was highlighted by Senator Bob Menendez, D-N.J, in a webinar with 2,000 business, labor, and immigration advocates. He notes that the bill is a "bold and visionary reform" that does offer not only fats-track but also legal status for approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants.

However, Voice of America (VOA) notes that even more people may come to the country after the Biden administration has informed that they will gradually permit an estimate of about 25,000 people to enter the United States as there are reviewed.

The first wave is expected to happen on February 18, 2021. In addition, ABC News also notes that the current administration has signed several executive orders on immigration, alongside permitting more refugees and creating a task force that will locate the parents of about 600 children who got separated under the Trump administration and still not yet reuniting.

With the improvement of the Biden administration's immigration policy, families who got separated from the border will be lessened, and efforts to find the parents of the children who got lost will be given attention. The pressure is in the Biden administration as families focus on them for their reunion.
