After arresting two suspects connected with the 55 Freeway road rage shooting, prosecutors are expected to make an announcement Tuesday against the individuals responsible for last month's death of 6-year-old boy Aiden Leos in Orange County, California.

Based on the announcement made by the California Highway Patrol on Sunday, June 5, they have arrested Marcus Anthony Eriz, 24, and Wynne Lee, 23, in their home in Costa Mesa. Each of them was being held with a $1 million bail.

Suspects To be Charged in Deadly Road Rage Shooting

According to KTLA, Todd Spitzer, the Orange County District Attorney, said in a press conference Monday, June 7, that the exact charges regarding the case were still being worked out.

Initially, the California Highway Patrol noted that they would be charging the two suspects with murder. Authorities believe that Lee was driving the vehicle, and Eriz was the one who fired the shots that killed Aiden Leos. But Spitzer said that filing a murder charge against Lee would be difficult.

The district attorney noted that they have to prove that the driver has the same kind of knowledge and intent as the actual shooter. Spitzer emphasized that it is a "bigger hill" for them to climb with respect to the driver.

California Boy Aiden Leos Killed in Road Rage Shooting

Aiden Leos was fatally shot on May 21 while in a booster seat in his mother car's right rear passenger side. At the time, the California boy's mother was driving him to kindergarten.

California Highway Patrol officials said they perceived that what happened is an unsafe lane change between Joanna Cloonan, Leos' mom, and the suspects. It, later on, resulted in the road rage shooting incident, CBS Los Angeles reported.

The California Highway Patrol said that one of the suspects fired at least once into Cloonan's vehicle in the rear portion, which has killed the 6-year-old California boy.

The suspects then escaped in what officials described as a 2018-2019 white Volkswagen Golf SportWagen with untinted windows and a sunroof.

There is a reward offered for information that can lead to an arrest in the case. It even reached at least $500,000. But officials declined to comment on any details regarding the reward during the news conference on Monday, Los Angeles Times reported.

Donald Goodbrand, California Highway Patrol Border Division's assistant chief, said they have recovered what they believe the weapon and vehicle used during the crime.

Goodbrand noted that the information coming from the public throughout this process has been extremely helpful. He also credited the collaborative work of various law enforcement agencies in Southern California regarding their investigation in the case.

However, authorities kept a tight lip on Monday to avoid providing further details regarding the ongoing investigation.

During the news conference, Spitzer rhetorically asked the press why there is so much attention in the California boy's case. He then noted that it is because it can happen to anyone in the community.

Spitzer added that almost all of them drive the freeways in Southern California, and you will never know when there will be an upset motorist along the road.
