El Salvador has suffered four consecutive days of torrential rain, and it has caused landslides all over the Central American country.

El Salvadoran Civil Defense authorities have reported that these landslides have resulted in seven casualties. Unfortunately, three of them are confirmed to be children.

Victims of the El Salvador Landslides

El Salvador Civil Defense Director Luis Alonso Amaya said two people died in the town of Panchimalco, about 11 miles (18 kilometers) south of the capital San Salvador. A family of five also died in the municipality of Huizucar.

In the Huizucar incident, TRT World reported that it happened in the community of La Pedrera.

A brown muddy chute managed to break into the thick green jungle and crashed into the family's home. It left the house completely buried by mud on Thursday morning, and all five occupants, including the three children, died.

Rescuers reportedly had to step around twisted sheets of corrugated metal roofing where the house was buried. A relative of the family, Marta Alicia Gomez Hernandez, was overcome with emotion.

She told Associated Press that the house fell on top of the family, and they immediately ran down to see what happened but to no avail. She said the loss had been tough for them.

In another incident in Panchimalco, two more people were buried in a landslide but were rescued. Unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries and died at the hospital.

Parts of El Salvador Now in Orange and Yellow Alert Due to Flooding and Landslides

The country's Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources said one of the heaviest impacted areas in El Salvador is the mountainous regions.

Authorities also said this is the period of the year that the country experiences the heaviest amount of rainfall.

Because of four days of heavy rains across the country, the country's Civil Protection unit placed 29 coastal municipalities on Orange Alert and the rest of the country on Yellow Alert. Flood alerts and landslide alerts have also been placed.

According to Al Jazeera, the heavy rainfall affects not just El Salvador but also other countries in the region, including Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.

The Comalapa River in San Luis Talpa municipality in La Paz overflowed and damaged several homes, while another landslide in La Libertad managed to block a road.

These El Salvadoran landslides happened amid other natural disasters recorded throughout Latin America, including Hurricane Fiona's decimation of Puerto Rico and the magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Mexico, which caused at least two deaths and damaged buildings.
