There have been many questions regarding the issuance of Stimulus Check 2023 payments to Americans.

In May 2021, the Internal Revenue Service noted that it has sent 167 million stimulus payments, amounting to around $391 billion.

The first round of stimulus check payments was issued in April 2020, with eligible tax-paying adults receiving a check of up to $1,200 while eligible dependents under 16 years of age received $500 each.

The second round of stimulus check payments was signed off on December 27, 2020 by then-President Donald Trump, which provided a one-time payment of $500.

Households were able to claim an additional $600 for those with child dependents aged 16 or under.

The payments were distributed to eligible individuals and households on December 29, 2020 and January 15, 2021.

The last round of stimulus check payments was issued on March 11, 2021 after President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan, which is a $1.9 trillion law.

The third wave of payments provided eligible taxpayers a stimulus check worth up to $1,400 while couples filing jointly received a maximum of $2,800.

It has been a while since the last round of stimulus check payments, which leaves questions regarding stimulus check updates on a fourth payment issuance.

Will There be Stimulus Check 2023?

Congress earlier approved the Economic Impact Payments, which allowed the distribution of stimulus checks through the passage of three bills.

To answer the much-asked question whether there will be another wave of stimulus check payments, the federal government will not be sending a fourth stimulus check payment in 2023.

Congress has yet to pass a bill authorizing the issuance of another stimulus check payment.

Mark Steber, chief tax information officer with Jackson Hewitt, noted that they are currently not hearing plans for additional federal stimulus checks in 2023.

In addition, the expanded Child Tax Credit, which is a pandemic-era assistance program, has been allowed to go out without any measures passed for its renewal.

A 2020 petition calls for monthly payments of $2,000 to each American, which recently passed the 3 million mark for signatures.

Some states have chosen to take the matter into their own hands and issued their own form of stimulus checks to their residents.

Stimulus Check Payments

In California, residents received a check of up to $1,050 in 2022 after the state's lawmakers authorized inflation relief checks.

The state estimates that around 5% of checks will not go out until January 15, 2023.

Singles earning $250,000 or more and couples filing jointly with earnings at least $500,000 are eligible for the inflation relief checks.

Colorado 2021 tax filers likely already received payments of $750 for singles and $1,500 for joint filers by September 2022.

Those who filed an extension by October 17 deadline may still be waiting for their checks. The remaining checks are projected to be distributed no later than January 31.

States of South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Idaho have also issued relief checks for their residents.
