The saga between Will Smith and Chris Rock has entered a new chapter when Netflix streamed the latter's s searing Netflix special, "Selective Outrage." However, this begs the question, has Will Smith even apologized for slapping the comedian?

A source who knows both men has told Page Six that Will Smith actually tried to call Chris Rock right after the Oscars, but the Saturday Night Live alumni did not pick up. The source also added that they have not spoken to each other ever since.

While Smith has not privately spoken and apologized to Rock, he did issue an apology of sorts publicly. The Men in Black actor also apologized to Rock's family publicly but he was skewered by the public for not apologizing to the then-Oscars host during his Oscars acceptance speech.

The Insider also confirmed that "Chris was open for a call until Will made his public apologies, and then all of those 'Red Table Talk' discussions." The latter was about the time Jada Pinkett Smith shared her hope that the two could "reconcile."

The source finally stated that the Netflix show was a closure for Rock and that the comedian wanted to do that in a safe space. At the same time, the source also denied accusations that Rock chose Baltimore because it was Jada Pinkett Smith's hometown. "[He] performed there five times last year, and he loves the audience," the source explains.

Jada Pinkett Smith 'Had No Part' in Chris Rock and Will Smith Drama

Speaking of Jada, another source has spoken to PEOPLE Magazine and stated that the actress had nothing to do with the ongoing feud between the two prominent actors. The source is reportedly close to the actress.

Rock skewered Jada in his Netflix show without even speaking her name, alluding to the marital problems between her and Will Smith, as well as her affair with one of her son's friends. Rock stated that the slap was more about Will Smith's relationship with Jada than Rock's "G.I. Jane" joke about her.

However, the source stated that she had nothing to do with it apart from being heckled by fans. "Look where he chose to film his Netflix special. Her hometown [of Baltimore]. Obsessed," said the source.

Chris Rock Tried to Call Will Smith After the 'Entanglement' Issue

Before the "Slap Heard Around the World." Smith and Rock were actually friends. In fact, Rock has admitted that he tried calling Smith to send his "condolences" after Jada admitted to having an "entanglement" with rapper August Alsin while she and Will were "formally separated."

However, Rock stated that Smith never answered his calls. In his Netflix special, the comedian noted that Will Smith still harbored anger about the affair and directed it towards him during "the slap," according to Business Insider.

"Will Smith practices selective outrage because everybody knows what the f--- happened," Rock stated during the Netflix comedy special, adding, "I had nothing to do with that s---. I didn't have any entanglements."
