Hunter Biden may have just called House Republicans on their bluff by actually showing up during a hearing on his contempt case, with Republicans visibly scrambling when he appeared during the session to confront them.

Republicans initially planned to approve a resolution that would hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress, but upon his arrival during the Wednesday session of the House Oversight Committee hearing, he may have reminded them that he had already offered to testify in response to Republicans' subpoena for his testimony but only in public.

Republicans have previously insisted that they hold a closed-door deposition with the presidential son and hold him in contempt should he refuse, but Biden has been insisting that he should make his deposition private so the Republicans cannot twist his words for political gain.

When he appeared early during the hearing, the Republicans at the House Oversight Committee were in chaos as lawmakers often went off topic and interrupted one another, even debating e meaning of "white privilege" and arguing over the use of "revenge porn" in the hearing room. These tangents went on even after Hunter Biden left, according to the Huffington Post.

The son of President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, arrived as the committee's top members made their opening statements. Rep. Nancy Mace started mocking him soon after he arrived, saying, "Who bribed Hunter Biden to be here today? You are the epitome of white privilege, coming to the Oversight Committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed - what are you afraid of?"

However, Florida Democrat Rep. Jared Moskowitz pointed out that Biden's appearance may have been contrary to Mace's claims.

"He's here. Doesn't seem to be too afraid," said the Florida representative. "The only folks that are afraid to hear from the witness, with the American people watching, are my friends on the other side of the aisle." This alluded to Republicans refusing to hold a public hearing for him to speak and only wanting a closed-door session.

Hunter Biden Lawyer Says Republicans Are Using Him as a Surrogate to Attack Joe Biden

Biden left as Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was speaking and did not answer any questions, except for one where he was asked why he allegedly put his father on speakerphone in roughly 20 business meetings while Joe Biden was still Vice President. To this, the younger Biden answered, "If he called you, would you answer the phone?"

Hunter's attorney, Abe Lowell, slammed Republicans soon after his client's appearance, saying that Hunter Biden is being used by the politicians as a "surrogate to attack his father", President Joe Biden. So far, the committee has failed to produce any solid evidence linking the president to his son's alleged crimes, relying only on the "guilty by association" argument.

Republicans Still Hold Hunter Biden in Contempt Even After Appearing During Hearing

Despite appearing during the hearing and reiterating his offer to testify but only in public, the Republican-held House Oversight and Judiciary Committees each passed contempt charges against the presidential son with unanimous Republican support, and all Democrats opposed.

According to Yahoo! News, however, it will be up to the Department of Justice to decide whether Hunter will be prosecuted or not. It will ultimately fall into the hands of the US attorney for the District of Columbia specifically.
