Taylor Swift teased fans the follow-up to her 2012 chart-topping album "Red" on Monday afternoon.

The "I Knew You Were Trouble" hitmaker took to her Instagram account to post a video, writing the following caption, "So, here's your first clue..." The clip shows her pressing an elevator button reading "18" six times.

Swift's followers immediately tried to figure out the significance of the number 18 -- whether it is the title of her new lead single following "22," there are 18 tracks on her latest project, she would release the new album 18 days from now, or the release date is the 18th of a month.

By observing her album release pattern, it is possible for the 24-year-old to drop her fifth studio album on Oct. 18. All four of her previous records came out within a few weeks near the end of October: "Taylor Swift" on Oct. 24, 2006; "Fearless" on Nov. 11, 2008; "Speak Now" on Oct. 25, 2010; "Red" on Oct. 22, 2012.

In addition, Swift said during a May press conference in Shanghai, China, that once she was done with the "Red" tour, which ended in Jun. 12, she would focus on crafting her next album. "We are not going to announce some other leg of the tour, but what that does mean is that I can throw myself into the next project," she said.

"I've already been working very hard on it and it's already my favorite thing that I've ever created," she continued. "So the idea is that after Asia, I get to go back and finish everything and get everything completely done and completely wrapped up for a new project, it's very exciting."

Taylor Swift also revealed that she would be writing about her personal experience in her new music. "As I've grown up, the things I've written about have completely evolved with how I was growing. I was writing songs about what it was like to be 18, what it was like to be 20, what it's like to be 22 and now I'm 24 and I'm still writing songs about my life," she said.

"I think I really just love the unity it brings me and the audience because chances are they've felt the exact same way I felt when I wrote the song and I think it kind of reminds them -- and it reminds me -- that the human experience it's so lonely," she added.
