For those that wanted to see Christina Hendricks play a stripper, you'll just have to wait.

According to Deadline, Hendricks has been cast in a lead role in the upcoming movie adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling 2009 thriller, "Dark Places." The "Mad Men" actress was originally cast in a supporting role as a stripper, but she will now portray Patty Day, the murdered mother of the main character Libby Davis, who'll be played by Charlize Theron. Producers offered the 38-year-old actress the role after Samantha Morton backed out, Deadline reports.

"Dark Places" follows Libby Davis, who learns that her brother's supposed massacre of their entire family, an event which she testifies for in court, may not be what she originally assumed. Deadline writes that Hendricks' will be seen in flashbacks throughout the movie as Libby slowly begins to uncover the truth of what really happened to her family.

The film, directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, will also star Nicholas Hoult ("Warm Bodies"), Chloe Moretz ("Kick Ass 2") and Corey Stoll ("House of Cards"). Shooting began in Louisiana last week.

For the past four years, Hendricks has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Joan Harris on "Mad Men." The AMC drama about a 1960s advertising agency has been an Emmy favorite since it first premiered in 2007. Including Hendricks' nomination, "Mad Men" earned a total of 12 Emmy nominations this year. The Emmys air Sept. 22 on CBS.

Season 7 of "Mad Men," which premieres next year, will be the its last. With the series ending, Hendricks would like to take on a new role, specifically on two popular Showtime and HBO dramas.

"I want to be on 'Homeland' because I love the suspense of it, but I also want to be on 'Game of Thrones," she recently told The Hollywood Reporter. "I want to wear pelts and horns and ride around on horseback."
