Betty Boop will be making her return to the big screen.

Syco Entertainment, which is Simon Cowell's company, and Australian brand Animal Logic will be creating the comedy. The two companies will team up with Fleischer Studios, which owns Betty Boop, notes the Hollywood Reporter.

The comedy will be music driven.

"Betty is an icon, and one of the biggest stars in the world -- I'm thrilled to be working with her," Cowell said. "Betty, I've worked with some serious divas, but I think you could be the biggest of them all."

Betty Boop has been around since 1930. Her last appearance was in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" in 1988.

"Betty is the original funny girl and to be able to create a music-driven comedy with ehr at the center is an amazing opportunity," said Adam Milano, the head of film for Syco.

Those involved in the project are particularly excited about who Betty Boop is as an icon.

"I'm thrilled that Animal Logic is part of this exciting new collaboration with Betty," said Zareh Nalbandian, CEO of Animal Logic. "She's an amazing, iconic and loved character, and we're going to have so much fun producing her 21st century big-screen debut."

Betty Boop was created by Max Fleischer for a Paramount series, "Talkartoons."

A movie was planned around her character before. In 1993, about 75 percent of the film was storyboarded, and the songs had been written. A new studio boss didn't continue to pursue the project.

Though Betty Boop has a flapper style, Cowell said, "The music had to be current."

No director or writer has been announced for the upcoming movie. The film will be produced by Nalbandian and Jason Lust from Animal Logic, as well as Cowell and Milano from Syco.
