The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off an NBA season where they lost a franchise-record 55 games.

Usually, expectations wouldn't be high, but the Lakers are 16-time NBA champions. As long as Kobe Bryant is on the roster, the Lakers will always have a fighting chance. This offseason, the Lakers two biggest additions have been point guard Jeremy Lin and head coach Byron Scott.

Recently, the Lakers had their media day, and a lot of eyes were on Lin.

Lin spoke about playing with veteran point guard Steve Nash this upcoming season. Of playing with Nash, Lin said "I just think there is so much to learn from the career that he's had; it's a no brainier to soak up as much information as you can."

Nash is one of the best pure passers in NBA history, ranking third all-time in career assists only behind John Stockton and Jason Kidd. Nash is 40 years old, but he can still teach Lin much of what he has learned.

Chris McGee of "Time Warner Sports" asked Lin what he worked on this summer, and Lin pointed to three main things. Those three things were consistency, left-handed dribbling and defense. Lin also said, "I want to be deadly from the three-point line." Lin has been criticized in the past for his dribbling before, and he is a decent perimeter shooter. As for defense, that will be something coach Scott puts a lot of emphasis on.

Lin is a career 34.3 percent shooter from the outside, which is considered good for someone who isn't a shooting guard or a shoot-first point guard, like Stephen Curry or Ray Allen. Last season, Lin shot a career best 35.8 percent from three, and his outside shooting percentage has increased every single season. On the other hand, it may best to not worry about shooting as much as passing.

Lin would go on to say "I think my bread and butter will always be attacking the basket." In some ways, Lin is similar to Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook in the way that he is a dual threat, offensively. Lin is a skilled and talented passer of the basketball who can also score.

Surprisingly, Lin said "I've been over Linsanity" and "it was more of a one-off thing" referring to his playing days with the New York Knicks. Lin explained how that used to surprise people, but "that won't happen again."

The biggest ingredient to watch with the Lakers this season will be between Lin and Kobe Bryant. Bryant only played six games last season because of a terrible leg injury, but Lin could be the best thing that happened to Bryant in a long time. With Lin by his side, Bryant won't be asked to do as much, and he can get a lot more rest. This backcourt combination could be lethal.

More and more, we have been hearing positive news about shooting guard Nick Young. Young made a career high 135 three pointers last season, so Lin will certainly be looking his way.

The Lakers open their preseason against the Denver Nuggets on Monday, Oct. 6. The Lakers' first regular season game will be against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at home in the Staples Center. Lin will be facing his former team in that game.
