"Wow. Thank you God for making me an artist," gushed "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez, who won her first-ever Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a TV series, Musical or Comedy at the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday in Beverly Hills, California.

The 30-year-old Latina actress lit up the room with her emotional acceptance speech after having to take a quick jog to the stage from her far away seat in a black strapless gown with an embellished, semi-sheer skirt by Badgley Mischka.

While understandably a little out of breath, Rodriguez thanked her bosses CBS' Leslie Moonves saying "you rock" for giving her a chance and believing in her, as well as the CW Network's Mark Pedowitz and Jennie Urman "for making me her Jane." She also thanked her two families -- her fellow "Jane the Virgin" cast members and her actual family.

"Thank you to my entire cast. I am nothing without you," she said. "Thank you to my mom and my dad for telling me to dream big and never stop dreaming. Thank you to my sisters and my siblings ... for being the biggest role models."

"This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes," added Rodriguez, who had tears streaming down her face. "My father used to tell me to say every morning: 'Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will.' Well, Dad. Today is a great day. I can and I did."

Rodriguez nabbed the award over more well-known and celebrated actresses such as "Girls" star Lena Dunham and "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus as well as Edie Falco and Taylor Schilling.

"Jane the Virgin" is a loose adaptation of Venezuelan telenovela "Juana la Virgen" and tells the ironic, absurd and comical story of a lovable, young and devout woman (Rodriguez) who discovers that she was accidentally artificially inseminated.

While "Jane the Virgin" lost the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series to Amazon's "Transparent," Rodriguez's big win comes on the same day that the CW announced that it was renewing "Jane the Virgin" for a second season, E! News points out.
