The much-awaited super fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly on the verge of being finalized. While no deal has been reached at this point, another boxing analyst gave his take on the rumored Mayweather-Pacquiao fight this year.

Bob Sheridan, a legendary Hall of Fame boxing commentator, was previously 100 percent sure that Mayweather will win against Pacquiao, but after watching Pacquiao in his recent fight, Sheridan said that the Filipino boxing icon could hand Mayweather the first defeat of his boxing career.

While most boxing personalities like Oscar De La Hoya and trainer Virgil Hunter predicted an easy win for Mayweather, Sheridan believes that Mayweather will have a tough time against Pacquiao, and the former pound-for-pound king has a good chance to win against the unbeaten champion.

"A few years ago I felt that Mayweather would win, but now watching Pacquiao in his last couple of fights, he's fighting as good as ever," Sheridan told Tha Boxing Voice. "Remember, both of them have lost a little bit from their very peak performances in their careers, so it all comes down to the night of the fight."

Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion who holds a 57-5-2 record with 38 knockouts, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Chris Algieri, whom he knocked down six times in their title fight in November last year.

Sheridan said that Pacquiao's speed could put Mayweather into a lot of trouble similar to what happened to Algieri, who was overwhelmed by the eight-division champion's blinding speed.

According to Sheridan, Mayweather looked unbeatable several years back but the 37-year-old has slowed down based on his performance in his last two fights against Marcos Maidana. Mayweather escaped with a majority decision win in May last year before cruising to a unanimous decision victory in their rematch in September.

"The whole situation involving the speed of Pacquiao, he could put pressure on Mayweather," Sheridan said. "There was a time when I thought that Mayweather was just totally unbeatable, I don't know if that's totally the case right now but that's why people want to see the fight, in spite of the fact that both of them are getting long in the tooth."

Recent reports indicated that the negotiation for the super fight has been going well over the past several days. The two camps have reportedly agreed to stage the fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, possibly on May 2, under a 60-40 share of fight purse.
