Giant George, once the Guinness Book of World Records' tallest dog, died last week.

The Great Dane died amongst his family in Tuscon, Arizona. He was seven-years-old.

"George passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, one month before his eighth birthday," his Facebook page said. "We appreciate the love and support you have given Giant George over the last several years. We look forward to honoring his spirit by continuing his charitable works."

A Giant George Service Day was created on Nov. 17 in honor of the late dog and, according to the event's Facebook page, will be held on "Planet Earth."

"In honor of what would be Giant George's 8th Birthday, he is asking that you donate your time and/or money to an animal cause or charitable organization that is important to you and your family," the event page says.

So far, over 2,500 people have RSVPed as "Going."

When the Guinness Book of World Records named Giant George the world's tallest dog on Feb. 15, 2010, he was 7'3'' and weighed 245 pounds, according to GiantGeorge.com.

"It wasn't long before George had made larger-than-life appearances on the 'Oprah Winfrey Show' & 'Live with Regis & Kelly' and started working on his first book," the website says.

Giant George also starred in his own book, Giant George: Life with the World's Biggest Dog.

In 2012, Giant George lost the title of world's tallest dog to Zeus, another Great Dane. Zeus comes from Michigan and is 7'4'' and 155 pounds.
