The competition between Microsoft and Sony is so tense that the upcoming game consoles -- the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One -- are even more similar than ever before, Battlefield 4 executive producer Patrick Bach says.

"Even on an extremely high level, I think they have more things in common," Bach said to mmgn.com. "It's much easier to develop and to deliver on five platforms, which is good for us."

The two game consoles follow the current Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles that are holding gamers over until the Nov. 15 and 22 releases. The PS4 will be out first followed by the Xbox One a week later.

There does not appear to be a clear-cut leader between the two game consoles and both units tend to have unique and exclusive benefits. For example, it was just recently learned that some video games would be played in much better quality on the Playstation 4 as opposed to the Xbox One. On the flip side, the Xbox One offers a comprehensive media experience where gamers can get connected to NFL football content online. Furthermore, the Xbox One can play CDs wheras the Playstation 4 cannot. The Xbox One also features updated and revamped Kinect software.

It has been more than a half decade since the last Xbox or Playstation video game platform was released, which has been part of why the upcoming release has brought with it a great deal of attention. Developers were also thankful for the longer period of time between releases because it bought them time to make the next release even better.

"I think we've been extremely privileged to have the time to work on this generation, and embrace the possibilities it's presented," Bach said. "It's helped the transition."
