A Game of Thrones video game is coming next year.

The announcement came this weekend during Spike's VGX awards. Telltale Games, the studio that created The Walking Dead video game --based off of the AMC zombie hit The Walking Dead -- will be creating the adaptation.

"It's TRUE! We're working with @HBO to create an all-new episodic game series based on GAME OF THRONES in 2014! #VGX," Telltale Games said via Twitter.

The video game will be primarily based off of the HBO series, rather than the novel series written by George R.R. Martin.

"You'll be swinging a sword now and then," Telltale said according to Kotaku.

Like many HBO series, Game of Thrones has its share of sex scenes. Joel McHale asked Kevin Bruner of Telltale Games if the video game will feature sex scenes as well.

"There are sex scenes on the show?" Bruner responded.

It is not yet clear how true the game will be to Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, which began with the 1996 novel, A Game of Thrones.

"We'll be taking advantage of all the fiction to make something great," Dan Connors, Telltale CEO, said during the announcement at the VGX 2013 awards show. "We're just really getting into it right now and thinking about characters -- who has the most at stake, who has the biggest impact on the world."

The game will reportedly not be action-heavy. It is likely that the Game of Thrones game will follow an episodic format, just like The Walking Dead video game, which will see its season 2 game release in 2014 as well.

Telltale Games is also known for creating a video game version of Jurassic Park.

Season 4 of Game of Thrones will premiere on HBO in the spring. The sixth book in Martin's series has no release date yet, but it has been titled The Winds of Winter.
