Amazon may be releasing a game console at some point in 2014, according to a report from VG 24/7.

Although the report has been widely circulated on the web, the VG 24/7 website was down at the time this was published and nothing can be confirmed at this time. Other websites, such as Forbes, picked up the story before it was too late.

Nonetheless, the potential game console is apparently going to be operated via Android and will sell for less than $300. Moreover, the game console is expected to also stream movies and TV as well as music to go along with the games.

The game console sounds like it could have some success considering that it is taking advantage of the ability to combine entertainment platforms to create what seems to be a virtual entertainment center. Interestingly enough, the potential game console sounds very similar to the way Microsoft has tried to market its Xbox One. Many people have called the Xbox One a sort of all-in-one entertainment center that has the ability to cater to everyone in the living room, even those who do not wish to play the video games but may be interested in streaming video and partaking in other activities via the console.

The market for game consoles could heat up with this news but all in all it is still dominated by Microsoft and Sony consoles. With the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 still maintaining a great deal of popularity, however -- possibly due to the high costs of the next-gen consoles -- things are becoming as busy as it has ever been in the gaming world. The increasingly popular games on smartphones and tablets are also putting a dent in the video game market at this time as well.
