When we think of the best apps we usually think of Apple's world famous iOS applications. Although Android apps do not always compare, it is easy to overlook some of the best ones.

Today we'll take an inside look at some of the best and most popular applications available via Android. From games to virtual office assistants, these apps have helped people take care of business in and out of the house, office, and elsewhere.

Of course, there are a number of staple applications that we all tend to download right away, regardless of how good or bad it is. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the general social media apps are some of the first ones we download across all operating systems and thus they generally do not stand out as being anything unique. With this considered, we'll take a peek at some of the apps that we may not always know about right away.

1.     Flipboard -- Think of all of those aforementioned "staple" applications and pretend they could all be bunched together to provide one massive pool of all your social media accounts. Flipboard follows this path by giving you a perfect visual of everything on one screen as opposed to flipping through numerous confusing applications.

2.     WhatsApp -- This is truly a cross-platform application that has proven to be very popular on multiple operating systems. The magic behind this applications is quite simple: Users can more or less text each other for free from any country in the world. It not only cuts down on expensive international texting fees, but it's also more instantaneous than texting is. It is a perfect combination of instant messenger and texting services bunched together into one.

3.     Spotify -- Free unlimited music would have been a distant dream not too long ago. Now its not just a dream come true but a legal dream come true. People can feel better about listening to their favorite tunes without buying a thing. Even if you want offline listening, you only have to pay $9.99 a month. Think of it as the Netflix of music, just with more selection

4.     Google Voice -- Think along the lines of WhatsApp in terms of free communication across world borders. This, however, takes it a step further by offering voice capabilities in addition to texting. It's worth it, especially if your friends and loved ones are not currently located in the same country as you're in.

5.     Hill Climb Racing -- Some of the most basic games are the best ones -- or at least the most addicting ones. It sounds quite plain since you'll be more or less just pushing the gas and the brake pedals. Give it a try -- you never know what catches your attention when you have nothing better to do on your commute home.
