The game to film franchise "Resident Evil" is now set to wrap up on the big-screen with the return of the character Claire Redfield, which was played by Ali Larter in the third and fourth films, according to Deadline.

Larter has been confirmed to reprise the role in the franchise's finale film. Also returning for the finale is director Paul W.S. Anderson.

The film franchise has been a phenomenal hit for the horror genre since its inception back in 2002. The first film ended with the near-guarantee that a sequel was coming and the franchise continued to end their sequels in much the same way, wrapping up one threat and being faced with another.

The franchise will conclude the series with this sixth and final film. The character of Redfield was presumed dead after her no-show in "Resident Evil: Retribution." But now, fans of the series and video games will have their official confirmation that she is still alive and will be joining the series heroine Alice (Milla Jovovich) in the zombie killing adventure.

The franchise has enjoyed an enormous success rate on the big-screen, grossing $244 million in the U.S. alone. According to Box Office Mojo, the franchise has pulled in nearly $916 million worldwide and continues to be a fan-favorite amongst followers.

Details for the next film have been vague, but what Deadline has reported so far seems to indicate that film picks right up where "Retribution" ended. Project Alice is still in action, attempting to thwart the Red Queen's plan to destroy all that is left of humanity on Earth.

It is unclear at what point Redfield will meet up with the heroine in the film, but it is safe to assume that she has been held prisoner by the Red Queen and will be liberated by Alice.

The film doesn't start shooting until this September and it will be on location in South Africa.
