Gamers who are eagerly waiting to get their hands on the fifth installment of the "Halo" game franchise this year might get disappointed. During an interview with Gamezone, Steve Downes, the man behind Master Chief's voice, revealed the 2014 fate of "Halo 5."

When asked about the hype surrounding the fall release of the game and the progress of his involvement in it, Downes answered, "I think you may be ahead of yourself on 'Halo 5'. I wouldn't expect anything until 2015."

Downes' response seems to contradict a previous report by Computer and Video Games regarding an update on the new 'Halo' game. According to the report, gamers were surprised after learning that Microsoft Executive Yusif Mehdi did not include 'Halo' in the list of anticipated games for the Xbox One console for 2014.

But according to Microsoft's senior PR manager for Halo Rob Semsey, the reason behind the exclusion of the game from the list is because its official title has not yet been formally announced. Semsey then reassured gamers by stating, "Your next Halo journey will begin in 2014."

Although Downes' response was disheartening, he spilled a big and exciting secret during the interview. After saying that "Halo 5" wouldn't be released until 2015, he added. "What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2."

"Halo 2" was first released last 2004 and November of this year marks its tenth anniversary. Metro reported that Microsoft is planning to unveil an HD remake of the game in November for its anniversary release.

Given the fact that there are no new updates about Halo 5 and Microsoft's plan to unveil the Halo 2 HD remake, it seems Downes might be telling the truth regarding a 2015 release of the new game. After all, releasing two new (well, one is new, the other is new-ish) games simultaneously might mess up Microsoft's marketing strategy of leaving gamers wanting more from their company.
