NBA 2K14 has captured the sports gaming world with its awesome gameplay and realistic graphics, but what about the actual game modes? How do they compare to older generations of basketball games?

When the popular game hit the shelves on Oct. 1 for the older-generation PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, fans flocked to the stores and saw advertisements about the "Path To Greatness" mode, which was devoted to the game's cover athlete, LeBron James. Besides the fact that the game mode seemed to be an obvious marketing tool for LeBron to associate his name with "greatness," it also served as the newest game mode of the year. However, this mode didn't necessarily gain as much steam as others due to the fact that it was not released on the next-gen copies of the game. All in all, it was a game mode that allowed users to become LeBron James and attempt to win as many more championships as possible.

Another key game mode in NBA 2K14 is the "My Career" mode. Although the general concept of this game mode is similar to others in sports games throughout history, there were a number of notable improvements for the 2K14 version of the game by 2K Sports.

Reviewers have also given praise to the My Career Mode. As Tim Webb said in an NBA 2K14 game review for Connect States Boro, the "many story sequences with players' characters make the NBA experience immersive and entertaining. The game gives players a feeling of actually being a part of the team by rewarding or disciplining them for actions on and off the court. The ability to have situations and/or conversations with players, coaches and agents creates a NBA simulation unlike any games in the past."

There are a number of different options for gamers who want to try different game modes in NBA 2K14 but it all depends on which one fits you the best. Which game mode is your favorite? Let us know in the comments section below.
