Megan Fox arrived on the set of "New Girl" on Monday in Los Angeles ready to fill in temporarily for series regular Zooey Deschanel.

The 29-year-old actress showed up to take the place of the new mother, who is taking a brief hiatus from the sitcom for maternity leave, according to People.

"I'm super excited," Deschanel said. "Essentially, [my character Jess] gets on jury duty and has to be sequestered, so the roommates rent out her room for a few weeks."

This will be Fox's first TV role since starring in ABC's "Hope & Faith" over a decade ago.

Deschanel and her husband Jacob Pechenik revealed their 3-month-old daughter's name on Monday night at the "Rock the Kasbah" premiere in New York.

"It's Elsie..." Deschanel said, when Pechenik added, "Otter." "Like the animal," the actress said, before her husband again added, "Sea otter!"

The 35-year-old actress also explained exactly how the couple decided on the name, partly inspired by the animal kingdom.

"We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters -- they're very sweet and they're also smart," Deschanel said. "They use tools ... they hold hands while they sleep, there's so many amazing things about otters. They're wonderful animals."

Meanwhile, Fox and her husband of five years, Brian Austin Green, decided to announce their separation in August. Not long after, the actress filed for divorce and cited irreconcilable differences. The entire relationship lasted about 11 years, and they have two sons together. In September, Green asked for spousal support and joint custody of their children.

Season 5 of "New Girl" is set to premiere in January 2016.

Deschanel can next be seen in "Rock the Kasbah" alongside Billy Murray on Friday, Oct. 23.
