Sometimes, the glamorous life isn't that glamorous: L'Wren Scott, the fashion designer and girlfriend of legendary Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, has just been found dead in her Manhattan apartment, apparently from a suicide by hanging.

Scott's death is, as of this writing, a worldwide Twitter trending topic, with many people expressing outrage, shock, and remorse over her death.

Scott, 44, was found hanging from a scarf on her doorknob by her assistant, according to USA Today. No suicide note was found, and at first glance, there was no sign of "foul play" (homicide). However, a medical examiner will release an official cause of death upon completion of an autopsy.

According to Fox News, the 6-foot-3 Utah native who was born Luann Bambrough was more than just a rock star's arm candy: she designed clothes for everyone from First Lady Michelle Obama to actresses Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, and Penelope Cruz. She also, for a time, teamed up with cosmetics company Bobbi Brown for various co-branding opportunities.

Bobbi Brown, the eponymous cosmetics mogul, has released a statement regarding Scott's death: "I am devastated by the tragic news about L'Wren. She was a visionary designer who I very much enjoyed working with, but she was also smart and kind. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her loved ones during this very sad time."

Scott first shot to global recognition when she styled a shoot for Elizabeth Taylor's "White Diamonds" perfume campaign. She also styled for Madonna, Julia Roberts, and Tom Hanks. As a model, she shot with such notable photographers as Guy Bourdin, David Bailey and Jean-Paul Goude. One of her first jobs in the industry involved working for Thierry Mugler for Chanel.

Jagger, who is currently on tour with his band in Australia, is reportedly "shocked" and "saddened" by the news of Scott's death.
