Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio received the endorsement of Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif.

Issa, who represents California's 49th Congressional District and currently serves as a member of the House Judiciary Committee and House Committee on Foreign Affairs, announced his endorsement on during an appearance on Fox News on Nov. 30.

"Marco Rubio really is an exciting candidate and I'm pleased to be able to endorse him and to work for him for the presidency," Issa said.

"He's been fighting for a lot of things I believe in, and, look, he's not afraid to engage on the hottest subjects and that's important because the next president is gonna have to fix a lot of broken things including our foreign policy" said Issa, who had served as chairman of the House Oversight Committee from 2011 until earlier this year.

Issa -- who voted in favor to build a fence on the Mexican border in 2006, sought to end birthright citizenship, co-sponsored to declare English as the official U.S. language, and questioned if President Barack Obama's legal authority to issue his Nov. 20, 2014, immigration executive actions -- received a 0 rating from the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, a coalition of 40 Latino organizations, based on his legislative votes during the 113th Congress. In the same scorecard, Rubio received a significantly better rating of 46.

"It's fitting that Congressman Darrell Issa, who led the Republican effort to exploit the Benghazi attack for political gain, is endorsing Marco Rubio, who is leading the Republican effort to exploit the Paris attacks for political gain," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Eric Walker.

"After 9/11, Democrats and Republicans came together to support President George W. Bush. The GOP response to the Paris attack -- especially Marco Rubio's -- has been shameful by contrast. We need a commander-in-chief serious about protecting this nation, not a grandstander-in-chief who exploits terror as a 'positive development' to further his own political ambition," added Walker.

Rubio's latest endorsement comes weeks after fellow House Republican Steve King endorsed fellow Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. Speaking about Cruz, King said the freshman senator "understands we got to restore this culture in America that we have to balance the budget, pay down our national debt, strengthen our families."

Based on Real Clear Politics' average of three surveys conducted between Oct. 29 and Nov. 22, Cruz has more support than Rubio, with 18.3 percent to 12.3 percent. Both senators, however, are behind Donald Trump's 26.7 percent and Ben Carson's 20 percent.
