Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is now available for Samsung Galaxy S4. A new custom ROM has been released for the 2013 flagship device.

A post on Team Android reported that OrionLP ROM based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop can now be installed with Samsung Galaxy S4. Particularly, it is compatible with S4 units bearing the model number I9500.

To check the model, go to phone's Settings then tap About Phone. Users should see the Model Number as one of the information available about the device.

According to Team Android's post, aside from general performance and stability enhacements, OrionLP also comes with several features that helped users improved productivity. These include the Master Heads-up display and expanded desktop allowing users to work more on the Galaxy S4 screen.

Because OrionLP is not an official firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy S4, users are advised to be cautious as any installation mistake can ruin the device. Using a custom ROM also renders the smartphone's warranty automatically void.

Furthermore, to ensure that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be properly updated using Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Orion LP ROM, users need to download a custom recovery tool. This will allow them to flash the custom ROM on the phone as well as create a backup for all the essential data and settings stored on the smartphone.

Installing a custom ROM such as the OrionLP firmware could wipe clean the smartphone, thus, the need for recovery tools. Two of the highly-recommended tools to use to make the backup are ClockWorkMod Recovery or CWM and the TeamWin Recovery Project or TWRP.

Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 also needs to have at least 80 percent battery before installing Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via the OrionLP ROM. For the download links and installation guide, interested Galaxy S4 units can visit Team Android's post linked above.
