After the Johnny Depp verdict was released, Amber Heard lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, believes that the jury in the Amber Heard defamation trial was influenced by what they saw on social media.

The high-profile case was widely discussed in both traditional media and social media. Bredehoft claimed that there is "no way" jurors would not have been influenced by what they saw on social media during trial.

The Depp-Heard defamation trial lasted six weeks, with Depp set to receive $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, according to a LAD Bible report.

The punitive damages were later capped at $350,000 by Judge Penny Azcarate.

Bredehoft said that the media coverage of the trial on social media was "horrible." She described the case as like the "Roman Colosseum," when it comes to how the public viewed the whole case.

When asked if Heard is able to pay $10 million in compensation, she replied, "Oh no, absolutely not."

Johnny Depp Verdict

Amber Heard's lawyer noted in an exclusive interview with TODAY that she believed Depp's legal team worked to "demonize" Heard and was able to suppress "an enormous amount of evidence" during the defamation trial that was won by Depp.

Bredehoft said that a number of things were allowed in the court that should not have been allowed, adding that it confused the jury.

Depp sued the Aquaman actress for $50 million over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, wherein she identified a "public figure representing domestic abuse."

Depp was not named in the story. However, his lawyers argued that it was an "implication" that Depp was an abuser.

Depp released a statement after the verdict, saying that the goal of the case was to reveal the truth, "regardless of the outcome."

Bredehoft said that the verdict was "a horrible message," and a "significant setback." She then cited a verdict with a 2020 case in the United Kingdom, wherein Depp lost a libel lawsuit against the Sun for calling him a "wife-beater."

Amber Heard Defamation Trial

Depp's lawyers asked jurors in closing arguments to give the actor his "life back" after it was "ruined" by domestic abuse allegations from Heard.

Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages but no punitive damages.

Independent news reported that a spokesperson for Heard noted that the actress has decided to appeal the verdict.

A jury determined Heard defamed Depp on all three counts in his lawsuit against her about the 2018 Washington Post op-ed.

Fans of the two have documented the defamation trial, noting every move and mannerism in court, as well as their attorneys' arguments.

Meanwhile, Attorney Lisa Bloom believes that the public has not seen the end of the Deep-Heard trial, adding that the case will be decided on appeal.

Bloom has a list of clients, including Janice Dickinson in her allegations against Bill Cosby and Mischa Barton in a revenge porn lawsuit.
