A royal historian claimed that one of late Queen Elizabeth II's wishes was that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reconcile with the royal family.

According to royal historian Robert Hardman, the deceased monarch "adored Harry right to the end, and Harry adored her," Business Insider reported.

Hardman, who wrote "Queen of Our Times: The Life of Queen Elizabeth II," told People that he thinks the late monarch was "one of the conduits between Windsor and California," adding that it would have been one of the Queen's "dearest wishes" that the family fix things up.

The Sussex couple stepped back from their royal work in early 2020 and had decided to live in California ever since. Two days after the Queen died, Harry, Markle, Prince William, and Kate Middleton shared a walkabout at Windsor Castle, greeting onlookers and taking in the flowers.

A palace insider told People William thought the walkabout to greet the crowds "was an important show of unity" during a difficult time with the family.

The insider noted that it was an "extraordinary historical moment and also a deeply personal one for the family." The palace source added that maybe some of "those wounds can be healed in the process."

Prince Harry and Queen Elizabeth II's Relationship

Since moving to California, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been more open about their lives as working royals, especially in their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In their Winfrey interview, the couple said there were members of the royal family who made racist remarks about their son Archie. The two also said they disregarded Meghan Markle's mental health, and Kate Middleton made Markle cry during the week of her wedding.

Prince Harry then noted that they were not pertaining to his grandparents, who made the racist comments. He added that they spoke to the Queen on FaceTime and named their daughter Lilibet, the Queen's nickname in the family since her childhood.

King Charles III had already cut off the couple financially after their step back. According to MARCA, a new book called "The New Royals" detailed that the Queen was heartbroken at the decision of the Sussex couple to quit royal life.

A source noted that the late monarch's root of sadness came from not being able to see her great-grandchildren Archie and Lilibet.

Queen Elizabeth II's Funeral

During the funeral on Monday, King Charles III led the processions of the Queen's coffin and was joined by the Queen's other children, namely Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

Prince William, Prince Harry, and Peter Philips were also in the procession, including the Queen's cousin Prince Richard, who is the Duke of Gloucester.

Vanity Fair reported that there were 2,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries and delegations, at the Westminster Abbey. There were 800 guests at the ceremony, including a handful of Queen's household staff and employees at Windsor Castle.

The funeral service was led by the Dean of Windsor, who will also lead a private service for the family.
