Abducted children from Missouri were found inside a Florida supermarket almost a year after they were taken.

The children were identified as Brooke Gilley and Adrian Gilley. The two were found at Florida Winn-Dixie with their non-custodial mother, Kristi Nicole Gilley, according to the High Springs Police Department.

Gilley was arrested for a kidnapping warrant. The warrant was issued by Clay County, according to ABC News.

The suspect was discovered with the children after police checked the tags on her vehicle, wherein they found out that Gilley was a fugitive.

The two children had been missing since March 5, 2022, and were turned over to the Florida Department of Children and Families Service.

They will be reunited with their family.

Missouri Children Kidnaped

Gilley was shopping at a Winn-Dixie store and officers were checking vehicle tags in the parking lot when they discovered that it was registered to a wanted fugitive.

Police then found her shopping with the children, with all of them disguising their identities, according to PA Homepage.

The warrant for Gilley was issued in July 2022, months after the children were last seen.

The children, Brooke and Adrian, were 10 and 12 years old, respectively, when they disappeared in March.

Before they were all found in a Florida supermarket, authorities believed that they were in California with Gilley.

The children were with their mother, but she does not have custody of the children, according to early reporting of the kidnapped children.

Police at the time identified both Brooke and Adrian as four feet and eight inches tall, with blue eyes and blonde hair.

When the Missouri children were still missing, authorities called on the public to contact officials at 911 or 816-439-4701 for any information they might have.

Parental Kidnappings

Around 2,3000 children are reported missing every day in the United States, with children missing worldwide believed to be around eight million.

Parents are accountable for over 90% of the abductions of children.

In 2020, around 400,000 youth were abducted in the United States, with teenagers being the most common age group for abduction.

Parental abduction is considered to be the most common type of kidnapping, with statistics on child abduction indicating that 60% of the time, the person is the mother or another female relative.

There may be long-term traumatizing effects for children despite the abduction by a parent not seeming to be a negative experience for the kid.

Children may experience grief, stress, or conflicts in loyalty due to abduction.

Almost five percent of children in the United States have experienced parental abduction in their lifetime.

In 2022, New Mexico reported more than 822 kidnappings and abductions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, placing the state at the top of the list when it comes to kidnapping abductions.
